Remember to count your blessings!

The last post was after a most special night for our family, when my husband was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.

Since that time my mum’s health has deteriorated. Mum has been fighting the ‘big C’ for the past five years after an earlier diagnosis about ten years ago. It has been a long and exhausting journey. Throughout that time and even now as she struggles to breath she has maintained a great sense of peace and dignity. She supports each of her children in coming to terms that she will only be with us for a short time. I admire the way she interacts with the many staff who care for her. Getting to know them and relating with them in a way that makes everyone feel happy. This time is one of highs and lows for us.  This is a sacred time. The other morning I made mum breakfast and then sat on the bed with her. We both ate our meal and chatted about life and memories.  My Grandmother taught us to count the blessings in our lives. I am counting the many blessings that I have each and every day that I spend with my wonderful mother who is so inspirational and lives with grace and dignity.
